Bloc Engineering know that engineering is often about the unseen, with much of what we do being hidden when a building is complete. Our role is to demystify these invisible workings in order to reveal unexpected opportunities.

Despite more than fifteen years in practice, we continue to strive for new and innovative ways of practicing our craft. Be it through research into new methods of analysis and design or adopting new materials, products or technologies.
This curiosity keeps Bloc Engineering on the cutting edge of our discipline and at the forefront of new emerging developments in the Built Environment. It also allows us to rethink traditional constraints in the design process, freeing us to concentrate on the bigger picture and empowering us to reveal unexpected opportunities or make existing designs and structures work harder.
Bloc Engineering see engineering as more of an art than a science requiring both technical and creative thinking, and we are pioneers for a new kind of engineering profession in which our craft is pivotal to the whole design process. We are no ordinary engineers and we are here to prove that design matters.

Mathew Christie-Newman
Founding Director

Mathew founded Bloc Engineering Consultants in 2020, driven by a desire to establish a practice which challenges the normal perception of engineers by pioneering the creative art of engineering, placing innovation & sustainability at the forefront of its agenda and ensuring its projects leave a positive legacy to their wider communities.
Driven by a love of great design, Mathew relishes the challenge presented by complex structures. He draws upon over 15 years experience working with leading architects, contractors and developers in London and the South East, on a vast portfolio of work, ensuring that projects deliver maximum value to clients. His tenacious approach to design draws out the best engineering solutions encompassing efficiency, creativity and sustainability, resulting in the successful completion of numerous award winning and renowned projects.
Mathew is a Chartered Structural Engineer and Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers and continues to play an active role in all of our projects.
